Cast for snapper on a private Key West reef trip
4, 6, or 8 Hours
Up to 4 people
Fishing gear, bait, licenses
Fish Key West's reef with light tackle and a captain who can coach you through the bite. Settle in aboard a walk-around boat with shade, a changing cabin, and a marine toilet.
Meet at the Dock We’ll meet at the departure point a few minutes before your scheduled trip time for a quick safety rundown, gear check, and a little trip talk before we head out.
Cruise to the Reef (or Wrecks) We’ll make our way 5–6 miles offshore to the reef. Depending on trip length, we may also hit up a wreck or two to mix it up. It's a scenic ride, so enjoy the views and sea breeze.
Anchor & Chum Once we find our spot, we’ll anchor up and get the chum slick going to draw in the fish. This is where things start heating up — lines go in, and the action begins.
Bottom Fishing & Bait Rotation We'll fish for snapper and bottom feeders like grouper and mutton snapper using light to medium tackle. Depending on the bite, we’ll rotate between cut bait and live bait to keep things lively.
Optional Drift or Location Change If time allows or the fish aren't cooperating, we may try a drift over a wreck or move to a new honey hole. Every trip is a little different — that’s part of the fun.
Wrap-Up & Clean Your Catch When we head back in, I’ll clean and fillet your catch (no descaling). You’ll be set up for a fresh seafood dinner — or a solid fish tale or two.
This booking is for the whole experience, which fits up to 4 guests.
Receive a full refund when you cancel more than 7 days before the trip. Receive a full refund if the captain cancels due to weather, mechanical issues, or unforeseen circumstances. No refund for cancellations within 7 days. No-shows are charged the full price.

Captain Janis has built a strong reputation in Key West for lobstering trips, though she clearly offers much more than that. Reviewers consistently praise her deep knowledge of local waters, her ability to find lobsters even late in the season, and her willingness to jump in the water alongside guests to help them succeed. First mate Siba also gets regular shoutouts, and the two make a well-regarded team on the water. What stands out most is how flexible and personal the experience feels. Guests have combined lobstering with reef fishing, snorkeling, sandbar stops, and dolphin watching all in a single trip. One family noted how patient and attentive Janis was with their autistic child, and she has even officiated elopements on short notice. If you have something specific in mind, she seems genuinely willing to shape the day around it.
Brandy and I had an awesome day on the Dauntless with Capt Janis. She performed our marriage ceremony, then took us to a reef for a great snorkeling trip then we moved off to fish the remainder of the day. The weather was pretty crappy but she made the best of it for us. The boat was great and rode well in mixed seas. After a great trip she cleaned the fish and bagged it up. She recommended a restaurant with a local vibe. "The Hogfish bar and grill" Capt Janis joined us after we invited her. The restaurant prepared our catch. Some blackened and the rest deep friend. It was delicious. We highly recommend Capt Janis and Dauntless Excursions. Darryl and Brandy Donovan
