    More about Smith Tower

Smith Tower rises from Seattle's historic Pioneer Square as one of the most recognizable silhouettes along the city's working waterfront, and there are few better vantage points to admire it than from the deck of a sailboat gliding across Elliott Bay. Completed in 1914, Smith Tower held the title of the tallest building west of the Mississippi for decades, and its slender, white terracotta profile still cuts a graceful figure against the modern skyline. Seen from the water, Smith Tower offers a window into Seattle's early twentieth century ambitions, framed by the bustle of ferries, freighters, and seaplanes that define the harbor today.

On this Seattle harbor sailing tour, Smith Tower becomes one of the standout landmarks your skipper will point out as the sails fill and the city skyline opens up behind you. As you ease away from the marina and the breeze picks up across Elliott Bay, you can pick out Smith Tower's pyramid-topped crown among the glass towers, a quiet reminder of old Seattle holding its ground. The salt air, the creak of the rigging, and the gentle heel of the boat make for a sensory contrast to the cityscape, with Smith Tower anchoring the view alongside the Great Wheel, the stadiums, and the green slopes of West Seattle across the water.

This sail is perfect for couples looking for a relaxed date on the water, visitors who want a fresh perspective on Seattle beyond the usual viewpoints, and history lovers curious about landmarks like Smith Tower. Photographers will appreciate how the changing light plays across the building's pale facade, while anyone simply seeking a calm afternoon will enjoy watching the skyline drift by at sailing pace. If you want to see Smith Tower the way Seattle's sailors and merchants once did, from the deck of a boat with the city laid out before you, this harbor sail is a memorable way to do it.

This sailing experience consistently delivers exactly what travelers hope for: a relaxing two-hour cruise around Elliott Bay with genuinely friendly crew members who make the trip special. The crew stands out repeatedly in reviews, with Clark, Daisy, Madison, Ben, and Molly earning individual shoutouts for their attentiveness and warm personalities. Guests love getting hands-on with raising the sails, and the views of the Seattle skyline are stunning. Drinks are available for purchase onboard, and you're welcome to bring your own food, though the marine-style bathroom requires typical sailboat etiquette. The atmosphere strikes that perfect balance between engaging and peaceful. You can chat with the knowledgeable crew or simply find a spot along the rails to soak in the scenery. Some visitors spot seals and sea lions, while others catch sunset views or glimpses of Mount Rainier on clear days. A few guests wished for more narration about the sights and history during the sail, and it's worth knowing the boat doesn't venture far out. Dress warmly since it gets chilly and windy on the water, even on nice days.

It was such a cool way to spend the 4th! The wind was especially good that day, and it was a great sail! That was the fastest one yet for me, and I think that was our 4-5th sail. The whole crew were fantastic, friendly, knowledgeable and just really cool people all around. Nick, Madison and Chad were awesome, and made everyone comfortable, happy and were really engaging with folks. Everyone heading home after looked super happy! I'm really glad we went, and I know we'll be back! Thank you all for everything and making it a wonderful evening!
