Mercury Fountain, inside the National Gallery of Art: West Building
Walking into the National Gallery of Art, you are met with marble floors that carry your footsteps through galleries filled with light and centuries of human creativity. The collection ranges from medieval altarpieces to modern canvases, and the building itself commands attention. The National Gallery of Art sits at the heart of the National Mall, making it as much a civic landmark as a cultural one.
Our family enjoyed DC’s National Mall by Moonlight tour so much! Alex is an exceptional guide- engaging, full of fascinating information, expressive, and great with all ages (we had adults, middle school boys, and a teenage girl in our group). You can tell he loves doing this, and I would’ve thought he’d been giving this tour for a long time based on his comfort with all aspects. I got the impression that no two tours are just alike; Alex adjusted conversations and the pace to our family’s interests. He’s also excellent with communication in setting everything up, and making suggestions for other sites to see while we’re in town. The tour was reasonably priced, definitely worth the cost. It is quite a bit of walking, so I think 2 hours was a good amount of time. We’re all so glad we chose this tour and we’d highly recommend it!
