Take a 2-hour Sweetheart Train ride through the Colorado Rockies on select February dates
2 Hours
Roundtrip train ride, narration
Ride the Sweetheart Train on the Leadville Railroad for a 2-hour roundtrip journey with mountain views from a lounge car. Enjoy onboard narration for half the trip, plus concessions and restrooms.
Alcoholic beverages and firearms are not allowed onboard, and smoking is not allowed (including e-cigarettes). Tickets are non-refundable, including in inclement weather if the train still runs.
Tickets are non-refundable. You can change date/time/type of car before your trip date if capacity allows; changes cost $6.00 per ticket. No refunds for no-shows or late arrivals.
Plan to board 30 minutes before departure. Tickets are held at will call, and you need to check in at the Depot before boarding.
It depends on the car. General seating is first come, first served. Lounge car seats are fixed and assigned, and the railroad may change seat selections if needed.
Dress for high-elevation conditions (around 10,000 feet). Bring layers for all weather; even summer can be cool, and winter can be below freezing when you step out of heated lounge cars.

The crew here really makes the experience special. Visitors consistently praise the friendly, knowledgeable staff who bring the area's history to life while keeping things fun and welcoming. The train itself features vintage late 1800s style cars with large windows you can open for photos, plus open-air sections where you can grab drinks and soak in the mountain views at 11,000 feet. The depot and gift shop add to the nostalgic charm, and they offer military discounts too. The scenery is the real showstopper, with passengers calling it beautiful and perfect for that quintessential Colorado mountain experience. Most find it relaxing rather than thrilling, which seems to be the intended vibe. A few practical notes: the caboose is a highly recommended upgrade if available, and snagging a booth makes for a more comfortable ride. Some mentioned inconsistencies with seating arrangements for families, and the food pricing gets occasional grumbles for being high relative to quality. Still, with hot chocolate and pretzels available onboard, most passengers found plenty to enjoy during their journey through the mountains.
