Kula
Perched on the cool, green slopes of Haleakala in Kula, Surfing Goat Dairy offers a refreshing contrast to Maui's coastal scene. You'll wander pastures where dozens of dairy goats roam freely, sample handcrafted cheeses made on-site, and breathe in the crisp upcountry air. Surfing Goat Dairy turns a simple farm visit into something genuinely memorable, blending agricultural tradition with the relaxed spirit of Hawaii.
Matt and Eric have created something special with their downhill bike tour operation. What sets them apart is the intimate, small-group feel – often just a handful of riders – combined with exceptional equipment. You'll be riding Trek mountain bikes with hydraulic disc brakes, a noticeable upgrade from what other tour companies use. Eric drives a support vehicle directly behind the group as a traffic buffer, letting you safely use the full lane while coasting down smooth mountain roads at speeds around 25-35 mph. The ride itself is virtually all downhill (starting around 6,500 feet), winding through stunning scenery, the cowboy town of Makawao, and ending at the beach. Matt, the owner-operator, brings genuine enthusiasm and personal touches that bigger operations skip. He takes tons of photos and videos during the ride and shares them afterward, bakes homemade treats (mango bars, coconut muffins) for mid-ride fuel stops, and provides all the gear you need – comfortable bike helmets, gloves, windbreakers, rain gear. The later 8am start time is appreciated by those who want to skip the brutal early morning departures. Both guided and unguided options are available, though even the "unguided" version includes Matt's support throughout. This is clearly a passion project run by people who genuinely care about delivering an exceptional experience.
Matt and Alex are awesome! They are what make the tour so good. The downhill biking doesn’t hurt either. They use good bikes and normal helmets compared to the other tours which make a big difference. If we bike down Haleakalā again, we will be using Maui Bombers. Mahalo!
