You drive your own UTV and follow the guide. Unless otherwise requested, you’re expected to drive your own machine.
Arrive early for check-in, gear pickup, and orientation. You’ll get helmets and goggles, watch a quick safety video, then drive your own vehicle about 10 minutes to the trailhead to meet your guide and get in your UTV.
Plan to arrive 30 minutes before your tour start time. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late to check-in, you may be rescheduled or canceled, and a $100 late/reschedule fee may apply.
The guides here are genuinely the star of the show. If I could give Expedition Kanab six stars, I would!
We spent a week exploring southern Utah and booked two UTV excursions with Expedition Kanab: Peekaboo Slot Canyon and the Great Chamber, and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.
Both experiences were absolutely fantastic and, without question, were THE highlights of our entire vacation!
If I had to choose a favorite, it would be the Peekaboo Slot Canyon and Great Chamber excursion. Both destinations offered breathtaking scenery unlike anything we’d experienced before. Add the fun of navigating the trails in a UTV, and you have an adventure that’s hard to beat. In fact, this excursion alone would be reason enough for us to return to Kanab!
The North Rim excursion was equally impressive. The views were simply otherworldly, and the journey included stops to see ancient petroglyphs and pictographs. Dry conditions made for a dusty ride—dust found its way into every fiber of our clothing! But the scenery was worth it, and we thoroughly enjoyed the adventure.
On the return trip, we stopped at the famous Jacob Lake Inn for what just might be the world’s best cookies! Without Robert’s local knowledge, we would never have known about these incredible treats. Thanks again, Robert!

Both excursions take you to extraordinary places not readily accessible by ordinary passenger vehicles. Traveling by UTV adds another dimension to the adventure.
A very special shout-out to our guide, Robert, who was absolutely outstanding!
Robert’s knowledge of the area’s geology was incredible, and he knew the trails like the back of his hand. He enthusiastically pointed out fascinating details we might otherwise have missed. From an unusual looping tree to the magnificent ponderosa pines, Robert helped us appreciate far more than the scenery.
He even gave us a wonderful demonstration of how sandstone forms, using nothing more than his water bottle!
Having qualified for senior passes to the national parks, we’re at an age where some of the steeper hikes, particularly at higher elevations, can be a bit challenging. Robert was exceptionally considerate, making sure the pace was comfortable and never too strenuous. His attentiveness let us enjoy every stop without feeling rushed.
He also knew exactly where the best photo opportunities were, frequently offering to stop and take pictures of our group.
And the fun wasn’t limited to sightseeing! After assessing our driving abilities, Robert chose a more challenging trail for our return trip, taking the excitement up another notch. It was an absolute blast!
The UTVs were comfortable, easy to operate, and felt safe and incredibly fun to drive. If you’re traveling as a couple, I highly recommend switching between driving and riding as a passenger. As a passenger, you can take in the surroundings, while driving offers an entirely different excitement. Both are worth having!
The scenery in southern Utah is awesome on its own, but when you’re fortunate enough to explore it with an exceptional guide like Robert, it becomes something truly spectacular and memorable.
