Inner Space Cavern was discovered in 1963 when highway crews drilling for bedrock stability along Interstate 35 broke through the cave ceiling. What they found was remarkable: a vast, undisturbed limestone cavern stretching more than two miles, filled with delicate formations and the bones of Ice Age animals that had fallen through natural openings thousands of years ago. Fossils of mammoths, glyptodonts, and giant ground sloths were recovered from the cave floor, giving scientists a rare window into prehistoric Texas.

Guided tours lead visitors along well-lit walkways through chambers adorned with stalactites, stalagmites, cave coral, and translucent soda straw formations. The standard tour covers the main passage and takes roughly an hour, while the more immersive Wild Cave Tour brings small groups into unlit, undeveloped sections where you crawl and climb through the cave as early explorers did.
