The John F Kennedy Memorial Causeway connects Corpus Christi to North Padre Island, stretching across the shallow waters of Corpus Christi Bay. Named in honor of President Kennedy following his 1963 assassination, the causeway replaced an earlier structure and has since become a central artery of the Texas Coastal Bend.

Anglers have long favored the causeway for access to redfish, speckled trout, and flounder. The older parallel span serves as a fishing pier, giving visitors a platform above the bay without needing a boat. The views from either span are expansive, taking in open water, distant refineries, and the low barrier island horizon.

The causeway also marks the beginning of the drive toward Padre Island National Seashore, the longest undeveloped stretch of barrier island in the United States. Birdwatchers find the tidal flats on either side productive, particularly during spring and fall migrations along the Central Flyway.
