Lake Dora sits at the northern end of Florida's Harris Chain of Lakes, a series of interconnected freshwater bodies that stretch across Lake County. Covering roughly 4,500 acres, the lake has long served as both a working waterway and a gathering place, with steamboats once ferrying passengers and citrus cargo along its surface in the late nineteenth century.

Today the lake draws anglers, paddlers, and sightseers in equal measure. Boat tours departing from the Mount Dora marina carry visitors past cypress stands and into the narrow canal that links the lake to neighboring Lake Beauclair, offering a relaxed way to take in the broader chain.

The town of Mount Dora, perched on a bluff above the southern shore, adds a distinct character to any visit. Antique shops, independent cafes, and Victorian-era architecture line the streets just a short walk from the water, making it easy to pair a morning on the lake with an afternoon exploring the town.

Osprey, anhinga, and the occasional bald eagle are reliable companions on the water, and the sunsets over Lake Dora, painted in deep orange across the open western horizon, are reason enough to linger well past dusk.
