Tillamook Bay is one of the largest estuaries on the Oregon coast, fed by the Tillamook, Trask, Wilson, Kilchis, and Miami rivers. This convergence of fresh and salt water creates a nursery habitat for Dungeness crab, Chinook and coho salmon, and dozens of shorebird species. The bay has sustained Indigenous communities, dairy farmers, and commercial fishers for generations, and that layered history is still visible in the working docks and weathered fishing boats that line its edges.

Anglers come to Tillamook Bay for its exceptional salmon and steelhead runs, and joining one of the local fishing charters is one of the most direct ways to experience the bay as locals do. Crabbing is equally popular, and rental gear is easy to find near the waterfront. Kayakers can explore the quieter channels threading through the tidal marsh, where the only sounds are wind and birdsong.

The surrounding landscape rewards exploration beyond the water. The Three Capes Scenic Route traces the headlands north and south of the bay, passing Cape Meares, Cape Lookout, and Cape Kiwanda. Nearby, Nehalem Bay offers a similarly peaceful estuary setting just up the coast.
