Dean has been unearthing Aspen’s secrets since 2007, blending a historian’s rigor with a storyteller’s flair. His intimate walks, light hikes, leisurely bike rides and after-dark ghost tours reveal silver-boom architecture, hidden...
Dean has built something special here, delivering walking tours that consistently wow visitors with his storytelling abilities and deep knowledge of Aspen's past and present. Guests rave about how engaging and personable he is, making history come alive through fascinating anecdotes rather than dry facts. His tours cover everything from prehistoric geology and Ute culture to the silver mining era, ski town development, and modern-day Aspen. The Off the Beaten Path and Past to Present tours are particularly popular, and his ghost tour offers a spooky twist that guests find entertaining (though maybe skip that one with very young kids). What really stands out is Dean's gift for making tours feel conversational and captivating. Families with children appreciate that he keeps even younger visitors engaged, while couples and solo travelers love the depth of insight they gain about the town. One guest mentioned he speaks quickly, but that seems to be a minor observation rather than a real issue. If you're looking to understand Aspen's heart and soul beyond the surface, Dean provides exactly that kind of meaningful introduction to the area.
