With roots as a flight academy, Mauna Loa Helicopter Tours pairs a pilot’s precision with true island hospitality. Since 2006, their Certified Flight Instructors have guided private flights above Kaua‘i, O‘ahu, and the Big Island,...
With a near-perfect reputation backed by hundreds of reviews, this helicopter tour operator consistently delivers spectacular aerial experiences over the Big Island. The pilots—Lance, Oskar, Ethan, and others—stand out for their smooth flying, extensive local knowledge, and friendly personalities that make the tours both informative and entertaining. Many reviewers mention how pilots adapt to weather conditions and work hard to show guests the best possible views, whether that's erupting volcanoes, dramatic coastal cliffs, or lush valleys that look straight out of Jurassic Park. The "doors off" option gets enthusiastic recommendations for unobstructed panoramic views, though you'll want to dress warmly. Private tours are popular here, giving couples and small groups a more personalized experience. The staff, particularly Cristen and Jackie at check-in, create a welcoming atmosphere from the moment you arrive. The two-hour Big Island Experience tour seems to be the favorite, covering everything from waterfalls and canyons to volcanic landscapes that you simply can't access by car.
