Blue Ridge Railway Depot - 241 Depot Street, Blue Ridge, GA 30513
This scenic railway experience in Blue Ridge consistently earns rave reviews, largely thanks to the staff who go above and beyond. Hosts like Tom, Jeff, and Jaime are name-dropped repeatedly for their humor, local knowledge, and genuine warmth. The four-hour round trip seems to be the crowd favorite, with an hour each way and a two-hour stop at a small town straddling the Georgia-Tennessee border where you can browse shops and grab a bite. Families, couples, and groups all seem to find something to love here. The private caboose option gets especially enthusiastic feedback from parents with young kids, and the rail bikes offer a completely different but equally enjoyable way to experience the area. Pre-buying tickets is a smart move and makes check-in quick and painless. One reviewer did feel the scenery didn't quite match their expectations and thought the souvenir package could be more generous for larger groups, so it's worth going in with calibrated expectations. That said, the overwhelming majority leave genuinely happy, many already planning a return trip in the fall when the foliage would make the views even more spectacular.
We did the rail bikes and also booked a private caboose for a family train ride while visiting Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, and both experiences were fantastic. Everyone we encountered was incredibly kind and welcoming — from reception, to the rail bike guides, to our caboose hosts, Russell and Kurt. Russell and Kurt took the time to answer questions, share their knowledge, and made the experience extra special for our family. They even got a workout helping the toddlers climb up and down from the cupola all day. The caboose was absolutely worth the price. Having a private space where the kids could move around comfortably made the ride so much more enjoyable, and the included drinks and snacks were a great touch. Highly recommend for families visiting Blue Ridge!
