Campland on the Bay
Campland on the Bay sits right on Mission Bay, and the location alone is a serious draw. Sites vary quite a bit, some are spacious and well-positioned near the water, while others feel pretty cramped depending on where you land. Amenities are a genuine highlight though: heated pools, hot tubs, a cantina, arcade, dog park, and regular events like live music, bike parades, and themed weekends keep things lively and give families plenty to work with. The vibe here is social and busy, especially on weekends. Kids thrive with room to ride bikes, playgrounds, and easy bay access for water sports. Dogs are genuinely welcome throughout most of the park, which longtime visitors clearly appreciate. Staff gets consistent praise for being friendly and helpful across many visits. A few reviewers flagged some maintenance inconsistencies, like broken equipment in common areas, so it's worth keeping expectations realistic on that front. This place draws a loyal crowd, with some guests returning year after year, which says a lot. It works best for families, groups, and anyone who enjoys an active, communal camping atmosphere rather than something quiet and remote. If that sounds like your style, Campland on the Bay is well worth considering for your San Diego trip.
Last Week with to much time. I decided to check Public Right to Access Mission Bay. As Mandated by Our Coastal Commission. Overall it is Excellent. The exception was Campland. Just inside the Main Gate I was Greeted with a Hey You from behind Me. I identified Myself and and Stated My Purpose. He was a Security Guard. Let's call Him Earl. Earl Stated , " You Can't Just Go Wandering Around." As a Matter of Fact Earl. What do You think Our Guests to San Diego Do? I immediately exited the Property. But not before noting the unkept Grounds and Overall Trashy appearance of this Property. I've informed The Coastal Commission. This "Destination" Detracts from Our Reputation as a Beautiful and Welcoming Environment from Guests the World Over.
