The show itself stands out as the real highlight here, with performers delivering spectacular dances and an engaging walk through Hawaiian history that guests find both entertaining and educational. The Royal Hawaiian beachside setting creates a beautiful backdrop, and reviewers consistently praise the attentive service from staff who handle everything from dietary accommodations to drink service with care. Many call it a trip highlight, with the three-hour experience flying by. However, the food falls notably short of expectations, with multiple guests describing it as mediocre to poor—often lukewarm, cafeteria-style, and disappointing given the premium pricing. This creates an imbalance that several reviewers mention when weighing value. Weather can also be a factor, as rainy conditions move the event indoors to a ballroom setting that loses the outdoor luau atmosphere guests were anticipating. If you're going primarily for an excellent cultural show and beautiful location while keeping expectations modest for the meal, you'll likely leave happy. Just know you're paying mainly for the performance and experience rather than a culinary adventure.
Food served at table vs buffet. Plenty of food, left feeling satisfied but not stuffed. The lawn area with the beach and ocean just steps away was great along with the sunset view. As it was my wife’s birthday she was presented a little extra birthday dessert decoration and a glass of champagne to mark the occasion. The show is excellent and informative regarding the evolution of Hawaii and Honolulu. Performers act as if it’s their 1st time putting on the show, not stale or jaded.
