Yes. Open-water training includes about a 10-minute snorkel from the beach to a mooring. If that feels like too much, take the Lap 1 course (theory and pool) and add open water later.
Bring a mask, snorkel, 5 mm freediving or spearfishing two-piece wetsuit, long freediving fins (no split fins or open-heel/bootie style), a weight belt, and weights. You can rent gear from Just Get Wet; total rental cost is roughly $80.

This freediving school has built something special around expert instruction and genuine community. The instructors, particularly Brittani, Chris, Viv, and Charlie, consistently earn praise for making nervous beginners feel comfortable while teaching solid technique. Students appreciate how they balance safety and fun, never rushing anyone beyond their comfort zone. The courses include classroom, pool, and open water sessions, with instructors providing helpful video feedback so you can see your progress in real-time. What really stands out is how welcoming everyone is. Multiple reviewers mention the positive vibe and supportive atmosphere that keeps people coming back for advanced courses and group dives. The staff clearly knows their stuff when it comes to gear recommendations too. Whether you're completely new to freediving or looking to level up your skills, the team seems genuinely invested in helping you succeed. Several reviews note the strong sense of community, which seems to extend beyond just the courses themselves into ongoing training sessions and charter trips.
Took an intro freediving course with Matt as my instructor and had a blast! Very attentive and informative, a great introduction to this sport.
