Guide, van, Alcatraz tickets
Tour San Francisco in a small group, with stops for photos and short walks, then head to Pier 33 for your afternoon Alcatraz ferry and Cellhouse audio tour.
Cancellation is free with more than 24 hours notice.
Start with pickup from your downtown San Francisco hotel around 10:00am. If you stay outside downtown, you can arrange a mutually convenient pickup point. Your exact pickup time depends on where you and other guests are staying that day.
Your guide drops you at Pier 33 at about 2:15pm so you can board the 2:45pm Alcatraz ferry. After you return to Pier 33, you arrange your own transportation back to your hotel (the tour does not provide return transportation).
Most guests spend about three hours total on Alcatraz. Return ferries depart every 30 minutes, and many guests take the 5:15pm ferry and return to shore by about 5:30pm (some are back by about 5:45pm).
San Francisco, California
Standing on the windswept dock as the ferry pulls away from Pier 33, the silhouette of Alcatraz Island grows sharper against the gray-green waters of San Francisco Bay. The island's bleached cellhouse crowns a rocky outcrop surrounded by cold, churning currents that once made escape nearly impossible. Alcatraz Island rewards the curious with peeling paint, rusting iron, and the particular silence of a place that has held soldiers, inmates, and activists within its walls.
Eric clearly knows how to create memorable San Francisco experiences. With a perfect track record across numerous reviews, he consistently impresses travelers with his deep knowledge of the city's history, culture, and hidden gems. What stands out most is his flexibility – he tailors each tour to his groups' interests, whether that means adding stops at the Mrs. Doubtfire house or adjusting the route based on weather. Multiple veteran travelers and even San Francisco locals mention learning new things and discovering places they'd never seen before. The intimate, small-group format gets praised repeatedly for feeling more like a friend showing you around than a typical tour. Eric remembers names, shares dad jokes, brings blankets on chilly days, and has even been known to provide birthday cookies. Families with teens report everyone staying engaged throughout, while travel agents with decades of experience call this a must-do. He provides thoughtful recommendations for lunch spots and other activities, and travelers appreciate his accommodating, personable approach that makes saying goodbye feel genuinely sad.
