Guide Dez (also called Des) is the heart of this walking ghost tour, and reviewers can't say enough about her. She brings genuine passion to every tour, weaving local history with paranormal lore in a way that feels both theatrical and deeply personal. Much of her material comes from her own research, and she's known to tailor stories to her group's interests, which makes each outing feel a little different. Families, couples, and history buffs all seem to leave happy, and the pace is described as relaxed and easy, making it accessible for most people. It's worth setting expectations before you book: this is primarily an outdoor walking tour with storytelling at various stops around the city, not an indoor access experience. A small number of reviewers were hoping for more hands-on ghost hunting or interior access to locations, so if that's your expectation, double-check which tour option fits what you're after. There are several different tour types available, including cemetery and farm experiences, and past guests suggest the variety is worth exploring. Tours do sell out, so booking ahead is a smart move.
Did the lantern tour and it was fun with great stories. Good exercise but not TOO MUCH walking. You can tell Des has a passion for both the paranormal and Traverse City itself. She was also really great with my kids who are 6 and 10 and even though they started the tour a little non committed they definitely ended up getting into it pretty quickly. Good time, good value.
