Share the stoke in a fun group surf lesson at Turtle Bay. Learn on land, then catch waves with attentive instructors and all gear provided.
Guests must be at least 12 years old to join the public group lesson. If no other surfers book your time, you may be moved to another group time or asked to upgrade to a private lesson. Ocean activities may trigger motion sickness; consider medication beforehand. When booking, include the surfer's name, age and surf experience in the notes section.
Q: The forecast shows huge waves. Will my lesson be canceled or in large waves?
A: At Turtle Bay the surf spot can be adjusted to fit the day’s conditions. If needed, complimentary golf cart transfers are provided to and from suitable locations.
Q: What happens during the lesson?
A: Begin with a 15–20 minute land lesson covering safety and technique, then surf for about an hour before reviewing photos at the shop.
Q: Are there age restrictions?
A: Guests must be at least 12 to join a public group lesson. Younger children or those needing extra attention should book a private lesson or Ohana package.
Q: What should I wear?
A: Wear a swimsuit and bring sunscreen. A rash guard and reef shoes are provided; women may prefer a well‑fitting suit.
Q: I can’t swim, can I take a surfing lesson?
A: Non‑swimmers must take a private one‑on‑one lesson. To join other lesson types, you must be able to swim comfortably in the ocean without assistance.

The instructors here are consistently praised for being patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely excited about teaching surfing. Names like Fletcher, Chris, Dane, Scottie, and Haven come up repeatedly, with families especially appreciating how naturally the team works with kids of all ages. First-timers report standing up on their first attempts thanks to concise beach tutorials that translate immediately to success in the water. The vibe is professional yet fun, with instructors sharing stories and local knowledge that adds to the experience. The location at Turtle Bay offers ideal beginner conditions, and instructors adapt to wave conditions by taking groups to alternate spots when needed. Professional photography packages receive enthusiastic recommendations, with guests loving the angles and memories captured. The one notable complaint involves surfboard rentals, where availability was inconsistent and pricing seemed steep for the condition of equipment. If you're coming for lessons though, particularly as a family or first-timer, you'll find an operation that delivers exactly what it promises with genuine aloha spirit.
Fletcher was an awesome coach! Made this experience the best part of my trip to Oahu! He was super helpful and made this experience great. Also, Lincoln at the front desk was extremely helpful in questions prior to my lesson. I would recommend this experience to anyone looking to catch some waves on the North Shore. Also, the photos from the professional photographer were awesome! And completed the experience. They were additional cost but could not pass them up.
