Max has built something special here, blending local culinary discoveries with genuine community storytelling. Guests consistently praise his warm, personable approach and the obvious rapport he's developed with restaurant owners and chefs. The tours typically visit four different spots, offering diverse tastings from tacos and quiche to Bavarian pretzels and artisan cheese. People love that he introduces them to hidden gems they'd never have found on their own, even locals who thought they knew the area well. The history component adds unexpected depth to the experience. Max weaves in background about South Orange and Montclair throughout the walk, and some tours partner with the Montclair History Center for an even richer cultural perspective. What really stands out is how well-organized everything runs. Food is ready when groups arrive, and Max keeps things moving smoothly while still allowing time to connect with the passionate chefs and restaurateurs. Groups consistently report leaving completely satisfied, having discovered new favorite spots they plan to revisit. Several reviewers specifically mention it's an excellent group activity for friends, coworkers, or couples looking for something different on a weekend afternoon.
My husband and I as well as another couple just moved to South Orange, and we had such an awesome experience with Max showing us around with Chow Town Food Tours! Max was really personable and had a great relationship with the local restauranteurs. We loved stopping by Edith's restaurant Jus' Tacos so much that we booked catering an event with them after the tour. Thanks for a great welcome to the neighborhood, Max!
