Excellent

This compact zoo punches above its weight with genuinely caring staff and memorable animal encounters. Visitors consistently praise the giraffe feeding experience, and special animal encounters like meeting the African penguins get rave reviews from animal lovers. The grounds are well-maintained and beautiful, especially when driving through the surrounding nature preserve where you might spot elk, bison, and deer. Seasonal events like "Boo at the Zoo" and the winter spectacular draw crowds without feeling overwhelming. The size works in its favor for families with young kids who can see everything in about an hour or two without exhaustion setting in. Some visitors note the animal collection is limited compared to larger facilities, and a few mention exhibits occasionally closed for maintenance. Food prices run typical for zoo concessions, though several reviewers found them reasonable. A handful of guests encountered bees during their visit, which seems seasonal. For families in the area looking for an affordable, kid-friendly outing with genuinely engaging animal interactions, this spot delivers a sweet experience without the overwhelm of massive zoos.

What people are saying

The Lehigh Valley Zoo is more a conservation. You won't find lions and tigers and bears. Instead you will find animals that are endangered or threatened that call this place home. They have made significant upgrades in the past few years. The new playground is up and tons of fun. It is conveniently placed between a (dated) bathroom and the petting barn. There is also a small cafe there for snacks as well. Feeding the giraffes is pretty cool. The one giraffe eats through the bars because they learned when they were little. They have special hours and events for zoo members. If you decide on your visit that you loved it enough to become a member, they have a promotion to put your admission cost to the cost of the membership. The hours are much shorter than in the past, closing at 4pm most days.
