Arrive on Time at Catalina Island Mermaids
Meet your photographer and Mermaid Experience Host at our studio in Island Tour Plaza. Guests arriving more than 15 minutes late may not be accepted if the day’s schedule cannot accommodate the delay. -
Choose Your Mermaid Look
Select your mermaid tail and a matching shell top, then use our restroom to change into your top. While we have a variety of mermaid tops and accessories, please bring a top that you like as a back-up. -
Complete Your Transformation
Your Mermaid Experience Host will apply mermaid scale makeup and stick-on face pearls. Finish your look by choosing a crown or another magical hair accessory. -
Pose in The Grotto
Put on your mermaid tail and let your photographer guide you through four professional studio poses. -
Choose Your Photos
Select your favorite image to receive as a printed 4×6 keepsake. You may also purchase additional prints, professionally edited photos, or the full digital gallery. -
Continue to the Beach—If Selected
Walk with your photographer to a nearby Catalina beach for additional oceanfront poses and photos. Expect to get sandy and maybe even get splashed! It is recommended to bring a towel. -
Begin Your Underwater Photoshoot—If Selected
Walk with your instructor and photographer to Lovers Cove or Middle Beach, depending on conditions. Learn how to swim safely in your mermaid tail before capturing magical underwater photos and videos.
Important details
- Arrive on time; arrivals more than 15 minutes late may receive a shortened experience or may not be accommodated
- Studio transformations and beach photoshoots are open to all ages; participants under 18 need a parent or legal guardian present for required paperwork
- Underwater participants must be comfortable in the water, swim 25 meters without assistance, and float for at least 3 minutes
- Underwater participants must complete required PADI paperwork; some medical questionnaire responses require written physician clearance before entering the water
- Beach and underwater locations require walking over sand, rocks, stairs, and uneven surfaces and may not suit significantly impaired mobility without assistance
- Beach and underwater activities depend on weather, ocean conditions, beach access, equipment fit, and final safety assessment
- Agree to allow Catalina Island Mermaids to use photos and videos from your experience for promotional purposes without compensation
Cancellation Policy
Receive a full refund with 24 hours' notice of cancellation. Receive a full refund if the operator cancels due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. No-shows are charged the full price.
FAQs
Bring your phone, comfortable clothing that is easy to change out of, and any personal mermaid accessories. For a beach photoshoot, wear fitted leggings, bike shorts, fitted shorts, or a swimsuit under your clothing; bring comfortable shoes or sandals, reef-safe sunscreen, a cover-up or change of clothing, a small bag, water, and a towel. For an underwater photoshoot, bring a swimsuit, towel, reef-safe sunscreen, and dry clothing. You may bring your own mask, snorkel, fins, monofin, mermaid tail, wetsuit, or other exposure protection; equipment you do not own is provided.
The studio welcomes travelers with limited mobility. Beach and underwater experiences require walking over sand, rocks, stairs, or uneven surfaces and may not suit significantly impaired mobility without additional assistance.
Beach and underwater activities depend on weather, ocean conditions, visibility, beach access, equipment fit, and the final safety assessment. Locations or activities may be adjusted for safety. Specific backgrounds, water clarity, wildlife encounters, poses, and the number of usable underwater images are not guaranteed.
