3rd Block Depot – 316 Chartres Street, New Orleans, LA
Gary stands out as the star guide here, earning consistent praise for his passionate storytelling and ability to weave New Orleans history with its culinary traditions. Guests love how he brings the city to life through humor and deep knowledge, making the tour engaging for everyone from history buffs to families with kids. Other guides like John, Meg, and Beth also lead tours, with most reviewers leaving satisfied and well-fed after sampling classic dishes like gumbo, muffaletta, and pralines at various French Quarter spots. A couple of visitors felt the tour leaned too heavily on scripted information or included stops at touristy souvenir shops that felt more commercial than authentic. The pace can vary by guide, with some delivering facts quickly while others create more space for conversation. Still, the overwhelming majority found this to be an excellent introduction to New Orleans, especially when done early in a trip to help plan the rest of your dining adventures. If you're looking for a foundation in Creole and Cajun cuisine combined with local history, this tour delivers that experience.
