Step inside Marble House and you are immediately surrounded by grandeur on a scale that feels almost theatrical. Commissioned by William K. Vanderbilt and completed in 1892, this Newport cottage set a new standard for Bellevue Avenue excess, its facade clad in pale Indiana limestone and its rooms dripping in gold leaf and imported marble.

Marble House earned its name honestly. More than 500,000 cubic feet of marble went into its construction, sourced from quarries across Europe and North America. Today the mansion stands as one of the finest examples of Beaux-Arts architecture in the United States.

I wish I knew our drivers name- he was phenomenal. We did the 10am 1.5 hr tour with a stop at breakers. The best part really though was the knowledge he shared the entire route up to the breakers. You could tell he is really passionate about Newport and it’s history. He was also really funny and personable. Highly reccomend this company!
