Stretched across the Chugach Mountains southeast of Anchorage, Colony Glacier is one of southcentral Alaska's most striking natural landmarks. Rivers of compacted ice carve their way through jagged peaks, revealing a landscape that feels genuinely primordial. Reaching Colony Glacier typically requires a flightseeing trip or a serious backcountry approach, which means the crowds stay thin and the silence stays deep. Standing at its edge, you feel the scale of Alaska in a way that few other places allow.
Spectacular! What an incredible adventure filled with Alaska’s majestic beauty. My husband and I took the 1-hour custom Knik Glacier tour/landing with a professional photographer, Brenna Haggle, yesterday and it was phenomenal. We are in our 70s and are considered sourdoughs of Alaska after having lived here in Alaska for over 50 years and have never experienced such beautiful views Alaska has to offer. It was so amazing. Our pilot, Rob, was awesome! He was friendly and very knowledgeable of Alaska’s geography. He flew us behind Twin Peak and Pioneer Peak to get glimpses of several glaciers and mountain goats. On the way back we flew over the Butte. He landed the helicopter on a very small section of Knick’s glacier right next to a blue pool. It was so pretty. Thank you Justin Lemoine and Rob of Heli Alaska for giving us lifetime memories we’ll always remember. Alaska’s beauty is so breathtaking I hope everyone plans a trip on Heli Alaska helicopters.
