Captain and crew, Bartender
Charter a traditional schooner for your private event and cruise through historic Salem Sound. Sail past lighthouses, forts, and islands, relax with your group, or join the crew to raise sails and take the tiller.
Up to 40 guests; all ages welcome. No BYOB; alcohol must be provided by the vessel. The onboard restroom is below deck and accessed via a short ladder, which may be challenging for those with mobility issues.
What is a private charter?
A host rents the boat for a block of time and the group has the boat to themselves.
How many guests can I invite?
Up to 40 guests, with comfort depending on seating, group type, and any food setup.
Where will we sail and what will we see?
Route varies with wind; expect views of lighthouses, forts, islands, and waterfront homes. Guests may help sail.
Can we bring our own alcohol?
No. The vessel holds a liquor license and must provide any alcohol served.
Is food provided?
You may bring your own food or arrange catering; easy-to-eat, hand-held items work best on board.
What about parking and meeting location?
Allow extra time to park. Meet at the ticket booth in front of FINZ on Wharf Street.
Are restrooms available?
There is a small marine toilet below deck accessed via a short ladder; shore restrooms are recommended before boarding.
What happens in bad weather?
If heavy rain or strong storms are expected, sails are canceled and you may rebook or receive a refund.
Full refund if canceled a week or more in advance. If weather prevents us from sailing, we will reschedule if possible, or else offer a full refund.
Fame of Salem
With a perfect track record across hundreds of reviews, this sailing experience consistently delivers memorable outings on the water. The crew stands out for being genuinely friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive to guests throughout the journey. Captain Mike and his team share fascinating stories about the boat and Salem's maritime history while keeping everyone comfortable with blankets, hot drinks, and affordable beverages onboard. Guests love the interactive elements like helping raise the sails, steering the boat, and firing the small cannon. Multiple reviewers mention this being a highlight of their Salem visit, even when they came primarily for other attractions. The sunset cruises earn particular praise for their beautiful views and relaxed atmosphere. It can get chilly on the water, so bring layers, though the crew provides blankets. Several satisfied sailors have returned multiple times and brought visiting friends and family, which speaks volumes about the quality of the experience.
We were so lucky to have great weather in Salem MA this past weekend. Someone told us we could get away from the crowds and spend time relaxing by the harbor. Sailing the water on Fame was so much fun!! The crew were amazing and informative with stories. They serve drinks too. You may even get to raise the sails or fire the cannon they have on board!!
