Q: I checked the forecast and the waves are going to be huge. Will my lesson be canceled or in large waves?
A: Thanks to the location at Turtle Bay there are beginner waves year-round. The spot adjusts on property to fit conditions, with complimentary golf cart transfers if needed.
Q: What happens during the lesson?
A: Begin with a 15–20 minute land lesson covering safety and technique, then surf for about an hour or more, followed by optional photo review at the shop.
Q: Are the instructors CPR certified?
A: Yes, all instructors are CPR and lifesaving certified.
Q: Will there be a photographer?
A: Yes, every lesson is photographed and images are available for purchase.
Q: I have a disability; can I take a surfing lesson?
A: Yes. If extra attention is required, a private lesson is recommended.
Q: I can’t swim; can I take a surfing lesson?
A: Yes, but non-swimmers must take a private one-on-one lesson. To join other lesson types, guests must be able to swim comfortably in the ocean without assistance. Lifejackets are available.
Q: What should I wear?
A: Wear a swimsuit and bring sunscreen. A rash guard and reef shoes are provided; women may prefer a well-fitting suit that stays in place.

The instructors here are consistently praised for being patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely excited about teaching surfing. Names like Fletcher, Chris, Dane, Scottie, and Haven come up repeatedly, with families especially appreciating how naturally the team works with kids of all ages. First-timers report standing up on their first attempts thanks to concise beach tutorials that translate immediately to success in the water. The vibe is professional yet fun, with instructors sharing stories and local knowledge that adds to the experience. The location at Turtle Bay offers ideal beginner conditions, and instructors adapt to wave conditions by taking groups to alternate spots when needed. Professional photography packages receive enthusiastic recommendations, with guests loving the angles and memories captured. The one notable complaint involves surfboard rentals, where availability was inconsistent and pricing seemed steep for the condition of equipment. If you're coming for lessons though, particularly as a family or first-timer, you'll find an operation that delivers exactly what it promises with genuine aloha spirit.
Fletcher was an awesome coach! Made this experience the best part of my trip to Oahu! He was super helpful and made this experience great. Also, Lincoln at the front desk was extremely helpful in questions prior to my lesson. I would recommend this experience to anyone looking to catch some waves on the North Shore. Also, the photos from the professional photographer were awesome! And completed the experience. They were additional cost but could not pass them up.
