Captain Tommy and his crew, especially first mate Kyle, have built something special here. Their expertise really shines through on both the whooping crane tours and dolphin excursions, with Tommy's encyclopedic knowledge of local bird species and the area's history making every outing educational and engaging. The Skimmer is thoughtfully designed for wildlife viewing, with a comfortable enclosed cabin featuring large windows plus open observation decks that photographers appreciate. Multiple reviewers mention seeing impressive numbers of whooping cranes at surprisingly close range, often with extended stops to maximize viewing opportunities. The tours consistently deliver memorable wildlife encounters, from dolphin pods following shrimp boats to rare whooping crane sightings in the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. Families love how interactive the experience is, with kids getting chances to help steer the boat. The crew keeps everyone comfortable with complimentary coffee, snacks, and water, plus loaner binoculars when needed. Tours sometimes run longer than scheduled when wildlife viewing is exceptional, which guests seem to genuinely appreciate rather than mind. The operation also runs sunset cruises and has a coffee shop with shaved ice on site.
My family went on the morning dolphin tour this past weekend. It was AMAZING! We saw so many dolphins! I don't know if we just lucked out or if they often see that many. My kids favorite part was helping drive the boat alongside Captain Tommy. We also learned about various birds and a little about the area oyster industry. Overall, a great experience and definitely the highlight of our short family vacation in Rockport / Fulton.
