    Most visitors leave thrilled after putting in some genuine work to find real gold, with guides like Jared, Nugget Nick, Andrew, and Andy earning consistent praise for being knowledgeable, encouraging, and fun. The experience is exactly what it sounds like: you'll dig in hard ground, get hot and dirty, and pan in cold creek water, but nearly everyone finds at least some flakes or small nuggets to take home. Families particularly appreciate the shaded creek areas and the educational aspect, though coming prepared with gloves, extra shoes, and clothes to change into makes a big difference. The physical nature of the experience isn't for everyone. A couple of families found the digging too difficult for younger kids or felt disappointed that staff did most of the actual panning instead of teaching them. One visitor noted that while the guide was nice, they didn't provide much explanation about techniques or gold rush history. Most reviewers found the two to three hour sessions plenty of time, and the overall consensus is that it's a genuinely fun outdoor adventure where the guides make sure you have a good time and actually find something to show for your effort.

    So decided on a Friday night to go on Saturday and was pleased to reach Nugget Nick and booked 2 hours. Told him I was bringing my mom who is 80 and that I was in a wheelchair and could stand but that was about it. They had some concerns about me getting down to the creek and rightly so because it's not far but it was too steep for my travel electric chair to make it down the path. They were sure to tell me this ahead of time but I already had gold fever and really wanted to spend some time with mom. It's the real deal on Woods Creek and you could throw a rock (nugget) into the famous Harvard mine pit from the little parking area. The minute I started down the path I was sliding in my wheelchair. Not in a scary way, more of a fun, well what am I going to do now way🤷‍♂️. That's when I met Big Nugget Nick. He promptly grabbed the handles of my chair and helped me to the little flat area where they had a couple of picnic tables. He offered to take me in his 4x4 down to the creek which was just awesome but I decided on option #2.. He had Already hauled a bucket of water up the hill and his boys were hard at it digging and classifying pay dirt for my mom and I to pan. Besides the experience, the hands on instruction was outstanding. I had watched plenty of you tube videos and I even had a small pan that I had used on some Facebook pay dirt but I didn't know squat. He was very patient and showed me many , many times how to pan it the right way. You could tell he was a real pro. Finally, I started getting the hang of it and then "Eureka! " a big flake appeared in my black sand. He said about $20 worth. That's what I'm talking about. Overall a great experience with wonderful people! A legit prospecting experience on a real gold claim. I'm hooked and will bring my 4x4 wheel chair next time ,
