Join the captain and crew of the historic A.J. Meerwald for a hands-on day aboard New Jersey's official tall ship. Help sail a 1928 oyster schooner while building traditional seamanship and marine science skills.

Know before you go
- Arrive by 8:45 AM for check-in
- Ages 12+ only
- This is a drop-off youth program
- Requires comfort climbing a vertical ladder and moving safely around the vessel
- Complete signed enrollment and medical forms before the program date
- Wear closed-toe shoes or sandals with heel straps; flip-flops are not allowed
- Bring a packed lunch, refillable water bottle, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and a sweatshirt or rain jacket
- Follow all crew and safety instructions
- Use the onboard restroom only for emergencies
- Take all items you bring onboard with you when you leave
Cancellation Policy
Runs rain or shine. If canceled for unsafe conditions, choose a transfer, donation, or refund. No refunds for no-shows or same-day cancellations.
FAQs
Boarding requires climbing about 2–4 steps, and the dock can be steep depending on the tide. Onboard restrooms are not Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible.
Water refill stations are available. The small onboard restroom is difficult to access and for emergencies only; use the terminal restrooms before boarding.
Bring a personal U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket if you prefer; it is optional.
