When gold was discovered in Aruba around 1824, a smelting facility was constructed here to process the ore extracted from the surrounding hills. The operation was short-lived, but the thick stone walls built to house it have endured for nearly two centuries, weathered by salt air and the relentless trade winds of the northern coast.

Today visitors can explore the open-air shell of the structure, climbing through doorways and peering out over the turbulent sea below. The setting is dramatic: jagged black rocks meet churning surf at the base of the bluff, and the arid landscape stretches inland, dotted with towering cacti. The ruins sit along a route that also passes Andicuri Beach, a secluded cove worth a visit after you have finished exploring.
