Marigot Bay has long captured the imagination of sailors and travellers. The sheltered harbour reportedly once hid an entire British fleet from French pursuers by disguising the masts with palm fronds, a story that speaks to just how enclosed and dramatic this natural feature is. That sense of seclusion has never really left.

Today the bay draws yachts from across the Caribbean, making it one of St Lucia's most active sailing destinations. A small ferry shuttles visitors between the road-side village and the palm-lined beach opposite, where a handful of open-air restaurants serve grilled fish, lobster, and cold Piton beer at the water's edge. The calm, protected water is ideal for kayaking and paddleboarding, and local operators offer sailing excursions out into the Caribbean Sea.

The surrounding hillsides are thickly forested, and the views from the upper paths looking down over the bay are among the most photographed in St Lucia. A short drive south leads to Anse Cochon Beach, a quieter stretch of dark-sand shore with excellent reef snorkeling just offshore.
