Set on the Waikiki Beach Marriott’s open-air terrace, Pāʻina Waikīkī blends an intimate dinner party with the spirit of a traditional luau. Produced by a veteran Polynesian entertainment company, the evening features live mele, gr...
This luau at the Marriott in Waikiki delivers a solid cultural experience with seriously impressive entertainment, though the food quality seems to hit or miss depending on when you visit. The performers consistently earn rave reviews for their talent and energy, with the fire dancing finale standing out as a highlight. Multiple guests mention the show beautifully weaves together Hawaiian and broader Polynesian history, creating an engaging narrative that goes beyond typical tourist fare. The MC gets particular praise for keeping everything flowing smoothly with her singing voice, and the overall atmosphere feels intimate compared to massive commercial luaus. Here's where opinions split: the food. Some visitors describe it as phenomenal, with tender meats and fresh salads that actually get refilled throughout the evening. Others found everything overcooked and disappointing, especially considering the premium price point. The timing matters too, since it's buffet style and latecomers sometimes face slim pickings. The drink situation raises eyebrows as well, with mai tais described as either "rocket fuel" strong or just plain bad. VIP seating gets you three drink tickets versus one, plus earlier buffet access and closer seats, though some felt the upgrade wasn't worth the extra cost. Staff and servers consistently receive compliments for friendliness and attentiveness. If you arrive early for the pre-show activities and lei greeting, you'll get more value from the experience. Just manage expectations on the meal portion and focus on the cultural performance aspect.
I booked this during my stay at the Marriott Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa. I contacted the guest experience team and they told me about their luau. This is the best Luau on the Island in my opinion. The food is phenomenal. The meats are hot, tender, and juicy and the salads are fresh. It's truly all you can eat. Other Luau's I have been to will run out of food and not refill or serve dry cold food. The show was beautiful as well. I would say it was more on the smaller intimate side. I loved it!
