This luau at the Marriott in Waikiki delivers a solid cultural experience with seriously impressive entertainment, though the food quality seems to hit or miss depending on when you visit. The performers consistently earn rave reviews for their talent and energy, with the fire dancing finale standing out as a highlight. Multiple guests mention the show beautifully weaves together Hawaiian and broader Polynesian history, creating an engaging narrative that goes beyond typical tourist fare. The MC gets particular praise for keeping everything flowing smoothly with her singing voice, and the overall atmosphere feels intimate compared to massive commercial luaus. Here's where opinions split: the food. Some visitors describe it as phenomenal, with tender meats and fresh salads that actually get refilled throughout the evening. Others found everything overcooked and disappointing, especially considering the premium price point. The timing matters too, since it's buffet style and latecomers sometimes face slim pickings. The drink situation raises eyebrows as well, with mai tais described as either "rocket fuel" strong or just plain bad. VIP seating gets you three drink tickets versus one, plus earlier buffet access and closer seats, though some felt the upgrade wasn't worth the extra cost. Staff and servers consistently receive compliments for friendliness and attentiveness. If you arrive early for the pre-show activities and lei greeting, you'll get more value from the experience. Just manage expectations on the meal portion and focus on the cultural performance aspect.
🌺 Pa’ina Waikiki Luau – What an Absolutely Amazing Evening! 🌺 We went to the Pa’ina Waikiki Luau and honestly, what an experience! 🇺🇸🌴 It was me, my wife and two friends, and from the moment we arrived, it was obvious this was going to be a special evening. It was incredibly family-friendly, welcoming and full of that genuine Hawaiian spirit. And then came the food… WOW! 🤤 It was buffet-style, but don't let that fool you — this wasn't your average buffet. Everything was fresh, beautifully prepared and absolutely packed with flavour. There was amazing pulled pork, sweet potatoes, incredible sides, freshly baked breads and vegetables I'd genuinely never tasted before — including some fantastic purple vegetables. Then there was the roasted prime rib, slow-cooked for around 12 hours. Tender, full of flavour and absolutely brilliant. And the desserts… 😂 There were so many that they massively exceeded my ability — or willingness — to eat any more! The drinks were fantastic too, with plenty to keep everyone happy while you sat back and soaked up the atmosphere. 🍹🍍 What really made the evening special, though, was the way the whole thing was put together. The seating was very social and before long you were chatting away with everyone around your table. You genuinely seemed to leave with more friends than you arrived with. Then came the entertainment. 🌺🔥 The performers were incredible. There was traditional Hawaiian dancing, energetic performances, fire dancing and fire breathing, fantastic live music, and even children getting involved in the performances alongside the adults. Maybe for the performers this is their everyday job, but for a lad from Manchester, England 🇬🇧, sitting there thousands of miles from home watching this unfold under the Hawaiian sky… it was absolutely bloody amazing. It wasn't just dinner and a show — it felt like being welcomed into someone else's culture for an evening. The music, dancing, food, laughter, drinks and people all came together to create one of those holiday memories you'll remember for years. And yes… before anyone asks, don't go asking for any Captain Cook dishes. 😂🔥 One final piece of advice for the husbands out there… 🌺👂 Make sure you know which side your wife's flower is supposed to go on. Get it wrong and you might be disappointed. 😂😂 Absolutely brilliant evening. Fantastic food, amazing drinks, incredible entertainment and memories that will stay with us for a very long time. 🌺🌴🔥 Pa’ina Waikiki Luau — absolutely loved it. 🔥🌴🌺
