Classroom, captain, charter
Learn the basics of safe, effective spearfishing on a full-day course aboard a 40-foot trawler from San Diego to the Coronado Islands. Cover theory on the ride out, then practice safety skills, target shooting, fish identification, and hunting techniques in open water.
A Beginner Freediver Course is a mandatory prerequisite through a reputable agency. You need a valid passport, a Mexican fishing license (about $15 for 1 day), and a California fishing license; these are not included. Dive gear, food and drinks, and fish processing are not included.
Events with boats: 30+ days full refund; 7 days 50%; 72 hours 25%; under 72 hours no refund. Full refund or free rebooking if the operator cancels due to unforeseen weather conditions. If minimum not reached 48-24hrs in advance, they may cancel and refund or rebook.

This freediving school has built something special around expert instruction and genuine community. The instructors, particularly Brittani, Chris, Viv, and Charlie, consistently earn praise for making nervous beginners feel comfortable while teaching solid technique. Students appreciate how they balance safety and fun, never rushing anyone beyond their comfort zone. The courses include classroom, pool, and open water sessions, with instructors providing helpful video feedback so you can see your progress in real-time. What really stands out is how welcoming everyone is. Multiple reviewers mention the positive vibe and supportive atmosphere that keeps people coming back for advanced courses and group dives. The staff clearly knows their stuff when it comes to gear recommendations too. Whether you're completely new to freediving or looking to level up your skills, the team seems genuinely invested in helping you succeed. Several reviews note the strong sense of community, which seems to extend beyond just the courses themselves into ongoing training sessions and charter trips.
I recently took the Wave 1 Molchanovs Freedive course with Matt at Just Get Wet. I would recommend this course to anyone serious about learning the fundamentals of breath hold diving and essential practices for safeguarding against shallow water blackout. Matt was an excellent instructor and very helpful for any questions we had. Thank you again, and see you out there!
