The captain cancels charters for inclement weather, including thunderstorms, excessive winds, and rainstorms. Charters still operate in light rain, cloudy skies, hot or cold temperatures, humidity, and small craft warnings. Weather forecasts do not qualify for rescheduling.
Recommended ages are 5+. Children under 5, including infants, are welcome, though the sail is not recommended for children under 2. U.S. Coast Guard-approved infant life jackets are available aboard Tara.
Bring picnic-style snacks, sandwiches, and drinks for your private sail. There is no formal table aboard, so choose easy-to-eat items.
Jersey City Liberty Landing Marina, 80 Audrey Zapp Dr, Jersey City, NJ 07305
Sailing New York Harbor with Captains David, Clark, Beck, and Thomas has become one of those rare NYC experiences that locals and visitors alike rave about. The knowledgeable, personable captains seem to be the real draw here, consistently praised for sharing history, pointing out landmarks, and genuinely making guests feel at ease on the water. Routes typically take in the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the Brooklyn Bridge, giving you a perspective of the city that's hard to match from land. The sunset sail stands out as a crowd favorite, with guests noting how magical it is to watch the city shift from daylight to dark from the water. One guest even pulled off a surprise proposal with the captain's help. Little touches like offering blankets on cooler evenings reflect the kind of thoughtfulness reviewers mention repeatedly. The boats themselves also get plenty of love, including one classic vessel from 1964 that adds a bit of historic charm to the whole outing. For anyone looking for a memorable, unhurried way to experience New York, this is a strong choice.
