Paddle to Kaneohe Bay's sandbar on a self-guided ocean adventure
4 hours or all day
Kayak, roof pads, straps
Explore Kaneohe Bay by ocean kayak on a self-guided route to its expansive sandbar. Paddle through protected waters with coral islands along the way.
You’ll begin by making the scenic 25 minute drive to the He’eia Kea Boat Harbor where you will find convenient parking and restrooms.
When you are ready to begin your adventure, you’ll carry the kayaks over to the designated kayak launch location to the left of the parking lot.
For your safety, it is important to launch from this location instead of the docks, which are reserved for larger boats.
From the launch spot you can paddle at your own pace and explore the area on the way to the sandbar.
We recommend getting out and snorkeling at the different reefs along the way.
You’ll paddle southeast for about 45 minutes to reach the sandbar.
Whenever you get out of the kayak, make sure to attach your floating rope to the kayak with the clip and wear the other end on your wrist/hand to keep your kayak with you at all times.
When you are ready to head back, simply paddle back to the boat harbor and exit the water at the same place you launched from and head back to our adventure hub in Kailua to drop off your gear.
Our adventure guides will be ready to assist you to make the drop off process quick and easy so that you’ll be off on your next adventure in no time. We also have bathrooms and an outdoor shower at our shop that you can use before heading out.
Free cancellation and a full refund when you cancel more than 48 hours before the activity. Cancellations within 48 hours are charged in full. If the operator cancels due to hazardous weather, you can reschedule or receive a refund. Rescheduled tours are nonrefundable.

The crew here absolutely nails the laid-back vibe that makes renting kayaks and paddleboards feel effortless rather than like a chore. Michael, Kyle, and Ethan get called out by name repeatedly for going beyond basic customer service. They're the kind of guys who'll share local apple bananas, help you figure out how to strap kayaks onto a tiny rental car without disaster, and actually give you useful advice about where to paddle. People mention heading out to Moku Island (Mokoli'i) and the sandbar as popular destinations, with the guides offering clear instructions that make first-timers feel comfortable tackling ocean kayaking even if they've never done it before. What really stands out is how chill and accommodating the team is when things don't go according to plan. Running late because of traffic? They're understanding as long as you call. Friend gets sick the night before? They'll process a refund without hassle. One group even got treated to island snacks including fresh poke and pineapple after their tour. The equipment itself gets solid marks, arriving in good shape and including snorkel gear with rentals. Whether you're looking for an affordable DIY kayak rental or want to join a guided tour on e-bikes pulling kayaks to Kailua, the consistent theme is stress-free service from genuinely nice people who make the experience memorable for the right reasons.
Mario was so accommodating and friendly. He was very responsive over the phone and communicated very effectively throughout the whole process. We booked a 3 person kayak and had a great efficient experience with active Oahu. This is a very honest local business. Mahalo!
