Know before you go
- Arrive at Black Mountain Visitor Center at 8am or Asheville Visitor Center at 8:30am
- The hike from the parking area to the dome is strenuous and may not be suitable for all travelers
- Bring only items that fit safely under your seat or in your lap; coolers, chairs, and duffle bags are not allowed
- Alcohol, tobacco products, smoking, vaping, and weapons including firearms and knives are not allowed on the van
- Rain and fog at high elevations may limit views; temperatures can change and thinner air is common

Bring water, snacks, medications, sunscreen, bug spray, a hat, sunglasses, comfortable non-slip shoes, and comfortable clothing. Bring a light jacket in spring and fall.
Bring a packed lunch if you do not want to eat at a restaurant in Cherokee. Bring spending money if you plan to buy lunch or shop at visitor centers.
