New York City Slavery & Underground Railroad Tour

The Hispanic Heritage Month tour with Inside Out Tours was insightful and inspiring. It was a featured part of our Hispanic Heritage Month event, and I came away with a much deeper appreciation for the rich history of Latinos in North America, much of which I was never taught in school. Offering the tour virtually made it easy for colleagues to join and learn together as part of our celebration. Our tour guides, Sadie and Emily, were engaging, knowledgeable, and warm. They kept the group interested from start to finish, welcomed questions, and made the history feel personal and relevant rather than like a lecture. Their passion for the subject came through, and our colleagues were clearly drawn in. The tour covered the histories of California and Texas, among others, and it made clear how long Latino communities have shaped both places. One line stayed with me: “We didn’t cross the border, the border crossed us.” It reframes the conversation about who belongs here, and it reminds us that many families have deep roots in lands that were once Spanish and Mexican territory. I also valued the focus on the Indigenous peoples who were here first, especially the history specific to Florida. It was a respectful reminder that the story of this region starts long before European arrival, and that Indigenous and Latino histories are closely connected. Inside Out Tours also took the time to understand what our company was looking for and tailored the experience to fit our needs. The booking process was seamless, and everyone we worked with was great from start to finish. The tour was well organized and thoughtful, and it left me proud of my heritage and curious to learn more. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a fuller picture of Latino history, whether you are Latino or not. It is worth taking the tour at any time of the year.
