Guides like David, Ben, Ed, Dirt, Cheri, and Sue have built something genuinely special here. Reviewers consistently rave about their depth of knowledge, enthusiasm, and ability to weave together local history, art, and food into something that feels more like an afternoon with a knowledgeable friend than a standard tourist activity. One reviewer has returned every year for six years, which says a lot. The food itself spans a nice range, from Italian and Mediterranean to donuts and gelato, and most people finish the tour thoroughly stuffed despite expecting otherwise. Locals and visitors alike tend to discover new favorite spots, with many returning to the restaurants featured on the tour in the days that follow. Multiple tour options cover different neighborhoods including Carlsbad Village, Encinitas, and Escondido, giving repeat visitors a reason to come back. One reviewer noted that portions felt small and flagged a hiccup with dietary accommodations not being arranged in advance, so it's worth communicating any food restrictions ahead of time. That said, the overwhelming feedback points to an experience that punches well above its weight, particularly for anyone who wants to genuinely connect with a place through its food scene rather than just tick a box.
We came to Carlsbad to meet up with family, and a friend recommended we try the Carlsbad Food Tours. This was such a fun experience, and all the food was delicious. Our guide, Ed, was awesome. He was so knowledgeable about all the places we ate, and was fun and easy to hang out with for the duration of the tour.
