Self-Guided Formal Gardens Tour in Kilauea

Explore the Formal Gardens at your own pace, from tropical landscapes to art-filled pathways. Volunteers stationed throughout the gardens are available to answer questions along the way.

• Stroll through vibrant Shower Tree Park
• Admire Ka’ula Lagoon, its waterfall, and tropical island
• Visit the Japanese teahouse among lush surroundings
• Discover distinct Desert and Palm Gardens
• Encounter more than 30 bronze sculptures

Important details

• Arrive Thursday between 9 a.m. and noon; check in no later than 10:30 a.m.
• Bring comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, and water
• Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian
• Expect uneven terrain and slippery surfaces; supervise children near deep water
• Do not swim in the lagoon or pool
• No alcohol, drugs, tobacco, or glass allowed
• Military admission requires a military ID; Kama'aina admission requires a valid Hawaii state ID
