Taste South Philly through stories, neighborhood history, and six food stops
3 hrs
Up to 10 people
Food tastings, drinks, guided tour
Explore South Philly through the stories and food traditions shared by local business owners and chefs. Follow guides immersed in Philadelphia's dining scene for a personal look beyond the usual stops.
We'll meet at the Southeast corner of Columbus Square Park, a community gathering place in South Philly.
From there, we'll walk to a neighborhood bakery and have a sweet treat. We'll make our way to Washington Avenue, talk about cheesesteaks, neighborhood history, and food along the way.
On Washington Avenue, we'll visit a second-generation, family-owned Vietnamese bakery for a banh mi, then head over to a beloved Mexican restaurant where we'll have the chance to sit and relax for a few minutes over tacos and agua Fresca.
The second half of the tour will be spent exploring the Italian Market. We'll share little-known history, offer recommendations, and take you to a new-school Jewish appetizing store and an old-school Italian bakery.
We'll finish with a glass of wine and plenty of time to give you restaurant recommendations.
Cancel at least 72 hours before the tour for a full refund or rescheduling. No refunds or rescheduling within 72 hours. Arrive 5–10 minutes early; arrivals more than 15 minutes late are cancelled without a refund.
Plan for about 1.7 miles of walking over roughly 3 hours.
Wear comfortable shoes and clothing. Bring water and consider bringing an umbrella, sunscreen, and cash for tips or purchases along the way.
The walking tour proceeds despite weather. If a weather event causes restaurants to close or poses a risk, you’ll be offered a reschedule or a refund.
