Itinerary
Your docent begins behind the scenes in the Sacristy, the practical heart of the Cathedral where ministers prepare for Mass. Here you’ll see how ceremony becomes craft: vestments, chalices, crosiers, and other sacred vessels that carry centuries of meaning in their materials, symbols, and use. Along the way, your guide connects what you’re holding and seeing to the rituals and traditions that shape Catholic worship—explaining not just what things are, but why they matter.
From there, you’ll ride the elevator up to the choir loft for a rare, breathtaking perspective high above the nave. Looking out from above, the Cathedral’s scale and symmetry come alive—arches, mosaics, and the three rose windows read differently when you can take them in at once. You’ll then descend to the lower level to explore the Cathedral Museum, where history becomes tangible through artifacts from the original 1858 cathedral, including an organ console, relics, and historic photographs. It’s a powerful closing chapter that shows how the Cathedral has evolved over time—while still holding tightly to the purpose it was built for.
