A thorough restoration completed in 2003 transformed the interior into a curated marketplace of local and regional food producers, and today the Ferry Building is regarded as one of the finest food halls in the United States. Inside the long arcaded nave you will find specialty purveyors of olive oil, chocolate, mushrooms, charcuterie, and handcrafted cheese alongside full-service restaurants that draw on the same regional sourcing ethos. The farmers market, held three times a week, brings together farms from throughout the Bay Area and Central Valley, making the Ferry Building a living expression of California's agricultural abundance.

Actual ferry service still operates from the building's docks, connecting San Francisco to Marin County, Oakland, and other East Bay destinations, so the structure remains a working transit hub alongside its role as a culinary destination. Few places in San Francisco so completely capture the city's relationship with its bay, its food culture, and its layered history.
