Holgate Glacier flows out of the Harding Icefield and terminates directly into Holgate Arm, a narrow fjord within Kenai Fjords National Park. Unlike glaciers reached by trail, Holgate is a tidewater glacier, meaning its face meets the sea and produces the spectacular calving displays that define an Alaskan fjord experience.

Boat tours departing from Seward navigate through open water and into the sheltered arm, bringing visitors within viewing distance of the glacier's fractured face. The ice displays an extraordinary range of blues, from pale aquamarine at the surface to deep cobalt in the compressed heart of ancient crevasses. Otters, seals, and puffins are common companions along the route.
