Hurrah Pass rises to roughly 4,600 feet above sea level along Kane Creek Road, placing it on a narrow ridge between two canyon systems carved over millennia by wind and water. The route to the pass follows the Colorado River briefly before climbing sharply through Cutler Formation sandstone, a rusty-red rock that glows amber in low-angle sunlight. Geologists and photographers alike find the exposed stratigraphy here unusually legible, each band of color marking a distinct chapter of the regions deep past.

At the summit, the view opens in every direction. To the north you can trace the canyon corridor back toward Moab, while to the south the terrain dissolves into a labyrinth of unnamed drainages.
