    Itinerary

After morning pickup in Anchorage, we will travel along the Seward Parkway towards Portage Valley. Your knowledgeable guide shares fascinating commentary about the wildlife of Turnagain Arm and the Chugach National Forest area. Stop at the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge, Beluga Point and Bird Point to get different vantage points on the Turnagain Arm, and look for wildlife such as moose and eagles. The Turnagain Arm is a narrow branch of the Cook Inlet, which connects to the Gulf of Alaska.

Visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a wildlife reserve located at the edge of Portage Valley. On the sprawling refuge, injured and orphaned wild animals are rehabilitated, including large Alaskan land animals like wolves, grizzly bears, wood bison, caribou, moose, musk ox and deer. View the animals up close and learn about their backstory as you walk around the large wildlife center.

    More about Beluga Point

Beluga Point is one of the most beloved pullouts along the Seward Highway, perched dramatically above the silty waters of Turnagain Arm just south of Anchorage. Named for the white beluga whales that chase salmon runs into these tidal flats during the summer months, this rocky outcrop offers some of the most sweeping views in all of Southcentral Alaska. On a clear day from Beluga Point, you can scan across the inlet to the Kenai Mountains, watch the famous bore tide roll in as a single rideable wave, and spot Dall sheep clinging to the cliffs directly above the highway.

On this Anchorage wildlife tour, Beluga Point is a key stop where the landscape and the wildlife converge in a way that feels uniquely Alaskan. Your guide will help you scan the water for the telltale flash of white beluga backs breaking the surface, while binoculars come out to study the Dall sheep navigating the near-vertical rock face overhead. The wind carries the briny scent of the inlet, the mountains seem to rise straight from the sea, and interpretive signs share the geological and cultural history of the area. It is a striking contrast to the forested wildlife viewing further along the route, offering open sky, salt air, and the raw scale of the Chugach.

This stop is perfect for travelers who want genuine Alaskan scenery paired with real wildlife encounters, not just zoo style viewing. Families appreciate the easy access and safe viewing platforms at Beluga Point, photographers love the dramatic light playing across Turnagain Arm, and first time visitors leave with a deeper understanding of how the tides, mountains, and animals all shape life here. A visit to Beluga Point captures the wild heart of Anchorage in a single unforgettable pause along the road.

The guides here consistently get rave reviews for making Alaska adventures truly memorable. Christina stands out in multiple reviews for her infectious energy and deep knowledge, particularly on wildlife tours, while Eli impressed guests with his humor and quick thinking (even staying composed during an earthquake!). Matt's passion for Alaska's outdoors left lasting impressions, and guides like Abbe brought professional expertise to glacier hikes. Albert and Marlene receive special mention for their multi-day Iditarod tour, showcasing excellent connections throughout Alaska's travel industry and dedication to finding prime aurora viewing spots. The wildlife tours and glacier experiences are the main draw, with guests thrilled by close-up animal sightings, glacier views, and knowledgeable commentary throughout. One important note: for some experiences like the Matanuska Glacier trek, this company provides transportation and coordination to partner tour operators rather than conducting the tours themselves. If you're booking, it's worth clarifying exactly what's included. That said, the overwhelming majority of guests describe unforgettable experiences with enthusiastic, knowledgeable guides who clearly love sharing Alaska's wonders.

Holy Cow!!! What an adventure!!! Eli (or Ellie, depending on your pronunciation) was amazing! His comic relief, ability to time travel, and epic knowledge base was a great start to our 4 hour Wilderness Tour. We stopped to see eagles, beluga whales, and dall sheep. Took a pit stop and had great coffee and a cinnamon roll the size of my head in Girdwood. Our tour at the Alaskan Wildlife Conservation Center was wonderful with all the animals being visible and active. Eli (aka Ellie) even remained cool under pressure with the 7.3 earthquake that took place while touring. Thank you Eli for the greatest memory and for making us your top priority!
