Dress in layers for summer temperatures of 45–80°F (7–27°C). Bring a light windbreaker or fleece, hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Wear long pants and light hiking boots or sneakers; no heels, flip-flops, or sandals.
The Matanuska Glacier hike stops on the way out where you can purchase lunch and snacks. You may also bring your own food, with time to picnic after the hike.
Expect about 2 hours of driving each way, with a brief rest stop about halfway to the glacier.
