Brew City Kayak LLC
Lakefront Brewery sits proudly along the banks of the Milwaukee River, and paddling up to it on the Best of Milwaukee Half Day Kayak Tour is one of those moments that captures the city's character perfectly. From the water, you get a vantage point most visitors miss: the historic brick buildings, the working riverfront, and the steady hum of one of Wisconsin's most beloved craft breweries. Lakefront Brewery has been a Milwaukee institution since 1987, and seeing it from a kayak gives you a fresh appreciation for how deeply the river and the city's brewing heritage are intertwined.
As you glide along the Milwaukee River on this half day kayak tour, Lakefront Brewery becomes a natural highlight of the route. The paddle takes you past landmarks, bridges, and architectural gems, but pulling up near Lakefront Brewery offers a chance to soak in the sights, sounds, and smells of a working brewery from the water. You might catch the faint aroma of malt drifting from the brewhouse, hear the clatter of activity along the docks, and spot the patio where locals gather to enjoy a pint with a river view. It is a contrast to the quieter, leafier stretches of the paddle, and it grounds the experience in Milwaukee's living, breathing brewing culture.
This tour is perfect for curious travelers, casual paddlers, beer lovers, and anyone who wants to see Milwaukee from a completely different angle. Families, couples, and small groups of friends will all find something to enjoy, especially those who appreciate a mix of light adventure and local flavor. Seeing Lakefront Brewery from your kayak is the kind of memory that sticks, a snapshot of Milwaukee where river, city, and craft come together in a single, unforgettable scene.
Step inside Lakefront Brewery and you are immediately surrounded by the warm hum of conversation, the yeasty perfume of fermenting grain, and the clatter of pint glasses along wooden tables. Housed in a restored former Milwaukee city power plant on the Milwaukee River, Lakefront Brewery wears its industrial bones proudly, pairing exposed brick and towering ceilings with a genuine neighborhood spirit that has made it a cornerstone of the city's craft beer scene since 1987.
The vibe here is genuinely welcoming, with a crew that clearly knows how to make visitors feel taken care of. Multiple reviewers call out guides like Jenna, Emerson, Chris, and Ava by name, praising their friendly energy and local knowledge. Even longtime Milwaukee residents mention learning new things about their city on the tours. The booking process gets consistent thumbs up for being straightforward, and the team earns praise for handling logistics smoothly from check-in through equipment return. Most experiences involve enthusiastic guides who share interesting tidbits about the city, snap photos for guests, and maintain positive energy throughout the paddle. A couple reviews mention quieter guides or a no-show situation, though these seem to be outliers in an otherwise solid track record. The location itself is a bonus, with reviewers highlighting the nearby outdoor patio and food trucks as great spots to unwind after your time on the water. The flexible cancellation policy also gets specific appreciation from people who've had to adjust their plans.
Kayaking the Milwaukee River is an awesome way to experience the city from a different viewpoint, and we enjoyed renting through Brew City Kayak. We chose Brew City based on past experience, knowing that the staff are super friendly and the equipment would be in good shape and easy to use. There are other rental options that offer more direct drop in points further up the river, but we enjoy the moderate challenge of navigating the confluence of the KK and MKE river - and you can't beat the great view of the Hoan!! Listen to instructions, be courteous of other boats, wear sunscreen, be safe, and have fun.
