Kona Salt Farm at the Hawaii Ocean Science & Technology Park
Visitors consistently praise the knowledgeable and enthusiastic tour guides here, with Ipalani, Mia, and Angie earning particular recognition for their welcoming Hawaiian hospitality and engaging presentations. The hour-long tour covers the fascinating process of harvesting sea salt from the ocean, includes interesting details about Hawaiian culture and history, and wraps up with a popular tasting session where you can sample different flavored salts. The cold-water foot soak is another highlight that guests find surprisingly refreshing, especially after a hot day exploring the island. The tour packs a lot of information into 60 minutes, though a couple of visitors mentioned the guides sometimes move quickly through their material, which can be challenging for larger groups. It's worth noting that the entire experience takes place outdoors in the Hawaii heat, so plan accordingly. Most guests find the educational component genuinely engaging and appreciate supporting a local business that gives back to environmental conservation efforts. The gift shop offers plenty of sampling opportunities even if you can't make a scheduled tour.
Had a wonderful tour. Very informative tour. Although I wish the tour guide could have talked a little slower. She was great but a lot of information to absorb. She explained the whole process of extracting the salt from the ocean. And showed us how it was done. After the tour she had a nice platter of tomatoes, pineapple and zucchini in which we could try the different salts that they sell. A wonderful experience.
